Introducing the Savvy Girl’s Career Guide

by alana on May 28, 2009

So, I’ll admit it:  my post-graduation job search was actually the job search from hell.  Well actually, my post-graduation job search technically began even BEFORE graduation – which, while I originally considered this to be a brilliantly proactive way to get a jump-start on my surely-bright future, only meant that I got an early taste of the stress and misery that is being completely and utterly unemployed.  Even despite my hard work, dedication and (capital ‘A’) Ambition, Entry-level jobs were shockingly hard to find.  Worse was that the few I DID find, I lost out to to people who were way too qualified to be considered entry-level anyway.  In the end, I finally became so downtrodden (not to mention broke) that I went back to applying to the same old part-time administrative jobs I was now wholly overqualified for, cursing the thousands of dollars I had racked up in student loans while envisioning an awesome and rewarding career.

(Sound familiar?)

Luckily, the story doesn’t quite end there.  Eventually I did find a job, a job directly related to the communications degree I worked so hard to obtain, and I breathed a (rather large) sigh of relief.  But more importantly, I learned A TON about the job search – the frustrating, relentless, competitive job search – that all the other young new grads just like me are facing every year.

I came up with this site to put some of that knowledge to use.  Anyone who’s struggled through four or more years of college or university only to have their sense of accomplishment squashed by that dreaded question “So, have you found a job yet?”, will know the scenario I’ve just described, and hopefully this site can be a helpful resource.  Good entry-level jobs ARE out there – you just have to find them.  Finding them can be a depressing task though – trust me, I understand – so I’ve done the work for you.  The Savvy Girl’s Career Guide will be updated daily to bring you as many new entry-level jobs as possible, all in one easy-to-find place.  No more wading through huge job databases full of so-called “Entry-level Marketing Jobs” which really just mean telemarketing or door-to-door knife selling.  No more wasted time searching for local jobs among a sea of positions in remote or far-off locations, either.  Just one website to check each day, featuring only good-quality entry-level positions that you can actually apply for and get.  Written by a girl who knows your pain.

Happy hunting!
